Meet the Team

Mike Spray
Mike opened The Running Company Launceston in 2011 after many years in the corporate world of media sales. He is a very keen, but not particularly good runner, and his nine marathons have all been run at a very sedate pace with a PB of 3:44:59. Fortunately his knowledge and passion for running shoes is much stronger. Mike helped launch the Launceston parkrun and supports many local fun runs. Mike looks forward to running a 10th and final marathon sometime in the future as well as becoming better acquainted with Tassie’s beautiful trails.

1. Favourite run
A five mile run along the north and south banks of the River Thames in London bookended by Westminster Bridge at one end and Tower Bridge at the other. The route passes the Houses of Parliament, Savoy Hotel, Tower of London, City Hall, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and London’s South Bank. An amazing history lesson in five miles.
2. Best Running Moment
Crossing the finishing line of the New York City Marathon in 1994 – 4:08:29. It was actually a sub-4 hour performance but there was no chip timing in those days!
3. What do you love about running?
Its simplicity – anytime, anyplace, anywhere.

Megan Baird
Megan comes to us with a history of club, representative and state netball. Moving to Launceston six years ago she fell in love with running and triathlon. Starting out with 5 and 10km events, she discovered the allure of the longer distances and has competed in 11 Half Marathons and two Ironman 70.3 events and recently for the National Team at the Duathlon World Championships. She now plans on exploring trail running and marathons. Megan has a background in allied health and disability and is currently completing her studies to become a personal trainer.

1. Favourite run
High on my list is the Blue Derby Half Marathon at Tassie Trail Fest. Another run close to my heart is the 21.1km up Mount Wellington.
2. Best Running Moment
My favourite running moment was competing in my first 70.3 triathlon at Port Macquarie. I had the fastest run of my age group.
3. What do you love about running?
I love that with running, change comes one step at a time. There will be moments when taking the first step out the door feels like the hardest task in the world. And other times, progress just seems effortless and the ease feels like it will last forever!
